With new books that have no publisher excerpts, Google Books preview or Amazon &#039;Look Inside&#039;, I look for reviews of the book and try a Google search for &#039;excerpt&#039; and the book&#039;s title. Quite often, I find reviews with very different perspectives (which is helpful in itself) and the occasional excerpt from a newspaper or similar.]]></description>

Many times when I was waiting on a book return, I would try searching the web either for excerpts from the book (since it is very difficult to find a free version of an entire book or journal), or see if there were any spark notes or similar types of summarized information about the book.  That way, by the time you actually manage to get your hands on the book, you already have an idea of what you want to get out of it and what you may use from it in an academic essay.]]></description>
